Is Dog God?

Is it possible that dogs are the true embodiment of the divine? Consider the evidence.

Dogs offer unconditional love without demand or judgment. They forgive instantly, harbor no grudges, and greet each return home as though it were the first. They do not abuse their young, abandon their pack, or pursue power over others. Material possessions hold little sway, beyond, perhaps, the sacred squeaky toy, plus, they don’t keep up with the Jones.

With absolute loyalty as they don’t shift allegiance based on politics, religion or sexual preference. They simply love the person before it. In a world fractured by ideology and self-interest, this impartial devotion stands as a quiet rebuke.

If humanity could emulate even a fraction of canine virtue, patience in waiting, joy in simple presence (squirrel) , forgiveness without scorekeeping, the planet would be kinder. War? Before starting another conflict, we should ask, “What would Rover do?” Not that we should pee on the property line, and we already bark needlessly at each other. Let’s not follow all canine behavior. You could get arrested for sniffing your neighbor’s behind.

Perhaps the Almighty did not descend in human form after all. Perhaps divinity has been walking among us on four paws, tail wagging, all along. Woof.
